butterfly pea flower tea toner

I grow butterfly pea flower in my garden for tea, so when I came across a butterfly pea flower toner and mist built around the same flower, it caught my attention right away. It is not every day you see an ingredient you grow yourself show up in a skincare product.

This post is about how I added it to my evening skincare routine, and why the ingredient itself is the part I find genuinely interesting.

Why Butterfly Pea Flower Caught My Attention

If you have read my post on butterfly pea flower tea, you already know I grow this vine for the color it brings to a cup of tea. Seeing it as the lead ingredient in a toner and mist was a nice surprise, it is the same flower, just a different use.

I did not expect to see it outside of tea and cooking, so I was curious to see how it showed up here. It turns out the flower is also used in K-beauty formulas, which is a whole side of skincare I had not paid much attention to before this.

The toner and mist I use also includes hyaluronic acid, rose water, and Centella Asiatica alongside the butterfly pea flower, a fairly simple ingredient list for something that pulls double duty.

What to Look For in a Toner

If you are looking for a toner to add to your own nighttime skincare routine, a few things I pay attention to when picking the best toner for me:

  • Alcohol free formulas, since alcohol can feel drying rather than refreshing
  • A short, simple ingredient list, easier to know what you are actually spraying on your face
  • Familiar ingredients, like hyaluronic acid or rose water, that are easy to find and read on the label

The one I currently use and keep restocked is the Gloves In A Bottle Hydrating Toner and Mist Spray. It is alcohol free, has a short ingredient list, and works as a toner after cleansing or a quick mist any time of day, even over makeup.

My Evening Skincare Routine Order

I keep my nighttime skincare routine steps simple, in this order:

  1. Cleanse
  2. Mist with the hydrating toner
  3. Night moisturizer to lock it in

That is the whole routine. No extra steps, no long list of products, just enough to feel like I closed out the day properly.

How I Use It

After I wash my face, I mist once or twice and let it sit for a moment before I move on to whatever else I am doing, usually a cup of tea and a bit of quiet before bed. Some nights it is the only skincare step I take, and that is enough. I also keep a bottle in my bag since it doubles as a quick refresh mid-day, especially after being outside in the garden most of the afternoon.

It has been an easy habit to keep. I do not have to think about it or set aside extra time, I just spray and move on with my evening.

From the Garden to the Vanity

It is a small thing, but I like when a product connects back to something I already grow. Butterfly pea flower started as a tea ingredient for me, and calendula is another plant from my garden that has found its way into skincare, you can read about growing it in How to Grow Calendula from Seed.

A Simple Habit Worth Keeping

You do not need a long list of favorite skincare products to feel like you took care of yourself. A toner, a night moisturizer, and a few quiet minutes can be enough. If you are looking for a place to start, this one is an easy first step to add tonight.
